Managing Four Trees Jungle Lodge in Southern Nicaragua meant immersing ourselves in a living ecosystem, where every day brought new opportunities and unexpected challenges.
From overseeing accommodation logistics and maintenance to coordinating staff and supplies, our role demanded attentiveness, flexibility, and the ability to anticipate needs before they arose.
In a remote setting, operational efficiency was tightly linked to environmental awareness - from protecting local wildlife and operating off-grid with solar systems and water pumps, to using eco-safe cleaning products - as well as respect for local rhythms, where infrastructure limitations mean extended timelines for even simple repairs and unplanned necessities.

Beyond operations, the human experience was at the heart of the lodge.
Hosting guests from all over the world was rewarding, but the real challenge was managing our local team. Differences in culture, communication, and perspectives often required careful navigation, trial and error, and patience. These efforts, however, were crucial: they allowed us to foster meaningful connections with staff and guests alike, and to bring the lodge’s vision of comfort and immersion in nature to life.
Creating rituals, guiding guests, and responding to the personal needs of both guests and team members honed our interpersonal skills and reinforced the importance of empathy in hospitality.

Living and working in a remote pueblito taught us resilience, adaptability, and the art of problem-solving under unpredictable conditions.
Every project, from small repairs to coordinating seasonal activities, required decision-making that balanced safety, guest satisfaction, and ecological sustainability.
This experience crystallized our vision of hospitality as a holistic practice, where care for people, planet, place, and process come together seamlessly: a perspective that continues to shape how we approach projects and teams in every context.
